I was just sitting back reminiscing some of the top stories of the past year or so and I got a case of the “What ever happened to’s”.

Like what ever happened to all the congressional hearings we were supposed to have investigating the price gouging being carried out by the major oil refiners and gasoline companies.

The Democrats marched the CEO’s of these companies before their committee and accused them of everything from price fixing to treason. Our favorite California Congresswoman Maxine Waters even threatened to have these private companies socialized (she meant nationalized, but the slip of the tongue was classic Freudian). Could it be that Congress decided not to allow the American public to study the fact that the federal tax on gasoline is twice the percentage of the refiner’s profits? Oh they talked about how they were going to rein in these mammoth profit machines and they certainly kept the headlines filled with sound bites for a while. They even put some toothless restrictions on oil futures trading. But I just don’t recall them actually doing much else to the focus of their wrath, the big oil companies, and now it’s old news.

Or, what ever happened to Nancy Pelosi and her claim that she was going to hold public hearings about being completely uninformed by the CIA about the enhanced interrogation techniques being used on the most hardened terrorists at Guantanamo Bay. She repeatedly stood before the press with cameras rolling and microphones pointed and called the CIA agents liars. Even the newly appointed CIA Director Leon Panetta was dragged into this cat fight in an attempt to protect the agents. Pelosi would have none of it. She swore she had never been told and was prepared to prove it. Right up until it was announced that lying to a congressional committee is a felony as was presenting false evidence. But Pelosi, at least publically, promised to get the whole story out to the masses and clear her name. It seems like this investigation is being handled by the same folks that work for OJ Simpson in his attempts to find the real killer. After over a month of outrageous claims it all just went away. How I do wish Pelosi would follow it.

And whatever happened to Special Middle East Envoy George Mitchell and his presidential mandate to “Push For Peace’? It was only a couple days into the Obama administrations term that the new Messiah introduced George Mitchell as his go to guy who was going to make it all better between Palestine and Israel. Obama had been campaigning for 2 years on the premise that if we just had open dialog on a fair and even basis with the terrorist groups Hamas and the PLO we will be able to break the cycle of violence and bring a lasting peace to this war torn region. Much was made of this by the press as this was actually the job of the new Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. But Mitchell was picked and with great fanfare sent on his way to the Holy Land. He has been back and forth several times to reinforce the Obama position of “Can’t we all just get along” but to no avail. There is no peace, there is no negotiation and as far as I can tell there is no Special Envoy George Mitchell anymore either.

Which leads us to our next “Whatever happened to” as in Hillary Clinton? During the Bush administration then Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was on every news show every day shown working on some major project with the executive branch or the military leaders. She was doing what she was supposed to be doing, acting as the country’s chief envoy in all foreign matters. After big promises and a few lesser appearances Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has all but been relegated to cutting the ribbon at Wal-Mart openings. She has made a few swings around the globe but other than presenting her Russian counterpart with a button that instead of saying RESTART was emblazoned with the Russian word for OVERCHARGE, can you think of any mission she has been on that could be considered even mildly successful? OK, how about this, in the past twelve months can you name any mission she has been on (other than the one where Bill picks up his drunken party girls)?

Oh, there are a few more that I will save for later in the week. Like Tom Daschle, Roland Burris, Increased Muslim Cooperation, The National Organization of Women (NOW) ,and how about that new age of diplomacy that was going to have the European Union eating out of our hand.

Much like beauty, success is in the eye of the beholder. You’d have to have some pretty poor peepers to find some in this administration’s first year.

Maybe that’s why the biggest “Whatever happened to” belongs to a free and truthful press corps.

BigFrick is off Thursday, but I will be back on Friday.

Barack Obama may no longer be sitting in pews of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, but the words he heard there still echo in his consciousness.

The Right Reverend Jeremiah Wright was back in front of the press microphones speaking with the same virulent, venomous hostility that he became infamous for during the campaign. This man who Obama staunchly defended and described as his spiritual advisor and one of his closest personal friends. This man that Obama refused to renounce saying he could no more disown him than he could his own grandmother. This man who Obama chose to officiate his marriage vows and christen his children. This man who refers to Obama as his son. This man who when asked today if he had spoken with Obama since he became president replied “Them Jews aren’t going to let him talk to me.” He went on to say “They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. … I said from the beginning: He’s a politician; I’m a pastor. He’s got to do what politicians do.”

The “them Jews” of which Reverend Wright speaks are the Zionist aggressors that the good reverend has been warning Barack about for lo these past 20 years. I’m guessing if he could find a way to connect the dots he would blame the Jews for coercing the CIA into bringing the AIDS virus and heroin into the poor black community.

The good reverend took the opportunity to speak to the press while attending the 95th Annual Minister’s Conference, being held this week at Hampton University. Wright mentioned his disappointment with Obama for not sending a delegation to the World Conference on Racism held recently in Geneva, Switzerland. Wright said it was because Obama was counseled to avoid the conference out of fear of offending Jews. “Ethnic cleansing is going on in Gaza. Ethnic cleansing (by) the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don’t want Barack talking like that because that’s anti-Israel,” said Wright.

But why does it matter? Why does it matter after the campaign is over and folks have already put Reverend Wright and his insane rants and anti-Semitic teachings out of sight and out of mind? Why does it matter now that Barack Hussein Obama is in the Oval Office having carried a wide majority of Jewish votes in the election? Why does it matter now that Obama is President and no longer under Wright’s tutelage?

It matters because the President of the United States was a devoted pupil of Reverend Wright for 20 years. It matters because the leader of the free world listened and learned from the parol teachings of this unregenerate paladin of ad hominem hatred. It matters because what this President of Hope and Change learned and accepted as truth from Reverend Wright is now shaping our national foreign policy.

It matters because if you listen to the recent speeches of Barack Obama on the Middle East you can hear Jeremiah Wright’s Anti-Semitic furor.

You can hear it when Obama says that no nation has the right to deny Iran a nuclear program, even though the stated purpose of that country’s Jihadist regime is the total annihilation of Israel.

You can hear it when Obama talks about the important role the violent terrorist organization Hamas can play in the future of the Palestinian government. The same Hamas that recruits mentally handicapped teens, straps them with explosives and sends them into a marketplace to kill Jews.

You can hear it in Obama’s flagitious assessments of greed and corruption in the banking community. For he is not the first national leader to put the blame for all his country’s woes on the backs of the money lenders.

Listen carefully to the student and you will hear the teacher.

That’s why it still matters.

Violence never solved anything.

At least that’s how the saying goes. It’s an expression that has been used by pacifists for years. “Make Love Not War” they cry. But have you ever noticed that the ones chanting these tired slogans are usually hundreds or thousands of miles away from the actual conflict?

Random acts of violence usually solve nothing, but random acts of violence are rarely if ever meant to solve anything. Strategically planned and executed violence often does bring about a solution. Anybody who says otherwise hasn’t paid attention very well in history class.

The current headlines scream that the ongoing military action being undertaken by Israel against Hamas in the Gaza strip is overkill (no pun intended). “Israel’s Attack Disproportionate” they say and use pictures of poor civilians and children killed or wounded in the airstrikes as proof of their claim.

To be sure, the sight of bleeding and dead children with their parents weeping at their side is horrific. But war is horrific business. There are no clean wars. By its very nature the purpose of a trained military is to kill people and break things and the purpose of military action is to kill enough of the enemy and break enough of their equipment to vanquish their will if not their physical ability to fight. It is not the military’s job to teach anybody a lesson, although the lesson is usually learned by the time the military is done.

The U.S. dropping nuclear bombs on Japan has long been viewed as disproportionate in its targeting of civilians but to anybody paying attention it ended the war with Japan in a matter of days. The ghastly pictures of human devastation and the years of radioactive health issues have prevented further use of these weapons of mass destruction. But the reality is that it was an extreme act of violence that did indeed bring resolution.

I am neither Jewish, nor do I feel any particular special support for Israel. But I am a supporter of any free democratic country that finds its very existence threatened by Islamic sects whose sole purpose in life is to kill its citizens. Israel has been warning these Islamic fascists for months that if they did not stop the daily mortar attacks on Israeli towns and citizens it would retaliate. Their warnings were ignored. They are not being ignored now.

As the death toll climbs toward 500 the news media is quick to report the number of civilian deaths. The deaths of the innocent are always tragic and even though civilian deaths account for only about 20% of the total it is no less heartbreaking. The reason the civilian deaths are even that high is that these Islamic warmongers set up their mortar launchers in civilian neighborhoods and around schools. The “civilian” adults are guilty of complicity with the uniformed Hamas fighters. There is no military and non-military zone. It’s all military zone.

As the major concern in the news media and with other Muslim countries seems to be a disproportionate response by Israel, let me ask the million dollar question: What exactly is an appropriate response to daily mortar attacks on Israeli civilians? What is an appropriate response to suicide bombers trained and equipped by Hamas to blow up civilian buses and marketplace shoppers? What is an appropriate response to a terrorist organization that has repeatedly stated their sole mission in life is to destroy Israel?

This extreme level of Muslim terror is not limited to Gaza or the Palestinian held territories. It exists and is growing in Egypt, Sudan, Iran, Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates, Somalia, Uganda and Jordan to name only a few. Muslim terror cells are expanding in just about every country on every continent. The news media continues to misidentify the threat by stating that actions like the one taken by Israel will embolden these terrorists. Make no mistake; they are already bold enough to attack the United States. And that is as bold as it gets. Ask Japan how that worked out for them.

And then ask them about violence solving nothing.
