Unless, of course, you are able to develop a celebrity driven media campaign and bullshit your way into some government grant money. Then wrong and right no longer matter.

Such is the case with embryonic stem cell research.

After a barrage of well funded, impassioned pleas by the likes of Parkinson sufferer Michael J Fox and a host of liberal minded government politico’s joined by downtrodden victims of just about every malady from Alzheimer’s to Zoster Virus, Americans began to become immune to the fact that in order for embryonic stem cells to save a life, a life must first be destroyed.

Scientists lined up around the Capitol eager to give their testimony of how the only salvation for mankind was to drop the limitations placed on embryonic stem cell testing and to also drop some heavy government funding into their research facility’s coin box. No other cells were suitable, we were told, and any restrictions would only prove to bring life as we know it to a screeching halt under the yoke of a myriad of maladies.

As one of his first orders of presidential business Barack Obama ended the restrictions imposed by his predecessor and stood at the helm of the "SS Infanticide" shouting full steam ahead. It was a dark day indeed for anyone with even a hint of a conscience.

Those of us who opposed this revisiting to the days of Josef Mengele were called callous obstructionists and socially unregenerate by the scientific elite. The smokescreen of scientific promises became so thick that many lost sight of just how truly hideous the idea of harvesting human babies truly is. Having thrown away our moral compass, it would only have been a short time before businesses were set up for the sole purpose of employing brood mare mommies to develop these tiny humans to just the right size for picking.

You may say “Oh Big Frick! That’s an exaggeration”. But is it?

In my lifetime we have gone from not showing Elvis Presley from the waist down on television because he swayed his hips to the prime time broadcast of the VMA Awards starring a transvestite man named Lady Gaga wearing clothing made of raw meat, singing a love song while screwing a goat and having his overinflated fake tits whistling Dixie. We are a nation that has gone from watching New York’s Bishop Sheen give his weekly sermon to watching some drunken, fat New Jersey girl named Snookie puke on her shoes and fart in a hot tub.

Do you really think there are any limits to our depravity?

But because, at least at one time, we had a president that understood the important difference between what was wrong and what was trending higher in the polls, the government withheld funding for embryonic stem cell testing and forced science to come up with another way.

They said it couldn’t be done. They were either wrong or lying.

Last week scientist in Boston confirmed that they had indeed developed a way to harness all the same life saving qualities of embryonic stem cells by reprogramming simple human skin cells. These reprogrammed cells will have the same abilities to grow new nerve cells, brain cells, muscle cells, etc. Everything that was promised by the use of embryonic stem cells is now possible without having to first harvest an unborn human baby. Once again proving that sometimes the best thing government can do for the advancement of science is say no.

It also proves once again that Barak Hussein Obama has not gotten it right on any issue.

Maybe being wrong about everything was the CHANGE he was promising.

I was just sitting back reminiscing some of the top stories of the past year or so and I got a case of the “What ever happened to’s”.

Like what ever happened to all the congressional hearings we were supposed to have investigating the price gouging being carried out by the major oil refiners and gasoline companies.

The Democrats marched the CEO’s of these companies before their committee and accused them of everything from price fixing to treason. Our favorite California Congresswoman Maxine Waters even threatened to have these private companies socialized (she meant nationalized, but the slip of the tongue was classic Freudian). Could it be that Congress decided not to allow the American public to study the fact that the federal tax on gasoline is twice the percentage of the refiner’s profits? Oh they talked about how they were going to rein in these mammoth profit machines and they certainly kept the headlines filled with sound bites for a while. They even put some toothless restrictions on oil futures trading. But I just don’t recall them actually doing much else to the focus of their wrath, the big oil companies, and now it’s old news.

Or, what ever happened to Nancy Pelosi and her claim that she was going to hold public hearings about being completely uninformed by the CIA about the enhanced interrogation techniques being used on the most hardened terrorists at Guantanamo Bay. She repeatedly stood before the press with cameras rolling and microphones pointed and called the CIA agents liars. Even the newly appointed CIA Director Leon Panetta was dragged into this cat fight in an attempt to protect the agents. Pelosi would have none of it. She swore she had never been told and was prepared to prove it. Right up until it was announced that lying to a congressional committee is a felony as was presenting false evidence. But Pelosi, at least publically, promised to get the whole story out to the masses and clear her name. It seems like this investigation is being handled by the same folks that work for OJ Simpson in his attempts to find the real killer. After over a month of outrageous claims it all just went away. How I do wish Pelosi would follow it.

And whatever happened to Special Middle East Envoy George Mitchell and his presidential mandate to “Push For Peace’? It was only a couple days into the Obama administrations term that the new Messiah introduced George Mitchell as his go to guy who was going to make it all better between Palestine and Israel. Obama had been campaigning for 2 years on the premise that if we just had open dialog on a fair and even basis with the terrorist groups Hamas and the PLO we will be able to break the cycle of violence and bring a lasting peace to this war torn region. Much was made of this by the press as this was actually the job of the new Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. But Mitchell was picked and with great fanfare sent on his way to the Holy Land. He has been back and forth several times to reinforce the Obama position of “Can’t we all just get along” but to no avail. There is no peace, there is no negotiation and as far as I can tell there is no Special Envoy George Mitchell anymore either.

Which leads us to our next “Whatever happened to” as in Hillary Clinton? During the Bush administration then Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was on every news show every day shown working on some major project with the executive branch or the military leaders. She was doing what she was supposed to be doing, acting as the country’s chief envoy in all foreign matters. After big promises and a few lesser appearances Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has all but been relegated to cutting the ribbon at Wal-Mart openings. She has made a few swings around the globe but other than presenting her Russian counterpart with a button that instead of saying RESTART was emblazoned with the Russian word for OVERCHARGE, can you think of any mission she has been on that could be considered even mildly successful? OK, how about this, in the past twelve months can you name any mission she has been on (other than the one where Bill picks up his drunken party girls)?

Oh, there are a few more that I will save for later in the week. Like Tom Daschle, Roland Burris, Increased Muslim Cooperation, The National Organization of Women (NOW) ,and how about that new age of diplomacy that was going to have the European Union eating out of our hand.

Much like beauty, success is in the eye of the beholder. You’d have to have some pretty poor peepers to find some in this administration’s first year.

Maybe that’s why the biggest “Whatever happened to” belongs to a free and truthful press corps.

BigFrick is off Thursday, but I will be back on Friday.

“Power is the great aphrodisiac” – Henry Kissinger

If the Democrats stupid non-stimulating stimulus package has saved or created a million jobs then Tiger Woods playing a skins game with a bevy of skanky harlots from coast to coast is responsible for saving or creating twice that many.

Woods and his well publicized dalliances are, quite frankly, the most effective jobs program the country has going right now.

The sheer volume of news print, media air time and comedic intellectual property being dedicated to what would have once been viewed as unseemly is staggering. In less than a week the total unceasing, 24 hour a day coverage being given to the “Tiger Woods Affair” has almost surpassed the overexposed media frenzy given to a now ex-president and the cherub in a blue dress he didn’t have sexual relations with.

Rag media photogs are busy snapping pictures of just about every cocktail waitress in Vegas and beyond in hopes of finding yet another heavily made up honey with a semi-convincing story about how she got her tattoo that reads “Tiger Slept Here”. Editors and reporters are burning the midnight oil seeking anything that could be even remotely plausible. Newspaper press operators are working overtime using millions of gallons of ink and tons of paper to prepare front pages designed to feed the breathless public its next dose of Tiger tragedy. When you consider all the varied industries involved in getting this sad scandal out to the unwashed masses, the Tiger Woods Affair could actually have a measurable impact on the next national GDP report.

I wish I could speak as one who is above all the manic hoopla and chastise those who are insatiable for more of El Tigre’s dirty laundry, but alas, I am not. It is not that I find solace in other’s failings or feel better about my own shortcomings by gloating of how the mighty have fallen. I guess the slight upturn in the corner of my mouth is due solely to the unavoidable fact that payback is a bitch.

Woods has done some remarkable things in both his personal and professional life. He is touted as the greatest golfer of all time and has achieved the lofty position of one of the most recognizable celebrities in the world. He is personally responsible for the huge upsurge in golf’s popularity and has made boatloads of dollars for his corporate sponsors and for the deserving charities the PGA has partnered with. He has become an industry unto himself and has personally donated mightily to his own and other charitable foundations. But the sad realization of my own personal failing is that I find a sense of karmic justice in this whole sorted affair because of something he didn’t do. And to make it even sadder it is for something he didn’t do many years ago.

It was in 1997 just after Tiger won his first Masters Tournament. It is tradition that the winner host a dinner for all the previous winners at the next year’s event. As the participants were exiting the iconic Augusta National clubhouse an obviously half inebriated Fuzzy Zoeller made what would become the worst joke of his long and storied jokester career. After lauding praise on Woods for his incredible talent Zoeller told waiting reporters that when Tiger gets there “You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and tell him not to serve fried chicken next year. Got it.” Zoeller smiled, snapped his fingers and then said “or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve.” Was it crude? Yes. Was it in poor taste? Absolutely. Was it politically correct? Hell no. But was it unusual for Zoeller to make crude jokes about most golfers on the tour? Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, Fuzzy Zoeller had a snide comment for just about everybody and in most cases the more odious the joke, the more the others enjoyed them. It was just Zoeller’s way of making you one of the boys. PGA Tour golfers would say it was almost like going to a Don Rickles show where you were disappointed if he didn’t make fun of you. Never did anyone take offense. Never, that is, until Tiger Woods.

The press jumped on Zoeller’s comments and portrayed them as being racist. Woods had the opportunity to make it all go away with a simple statement like “Fuzzy is not a racist” or “Hey, he makes fun of everybody”, but no. Instead Woods jumped on the bandwagon and feigned personal injury by Zoeller’s obvious poor attempt at humor. He did nothing but sit back and watch as Fuzzy was publically lynched by the media and lost all his sponsors, including K Mart and Dunlop. Fuzzy dropped off the tour and was banished to an occasional appearance on the Seniors Tour.

It could have been so easy, but instead of doing what was right, Tiger made it about Tiger. And isn’t that what this divorce attorney’s dream come true is all about as well?

I guess old habits die hard.
